  • Encouraging adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices, especially the use of novel
    reduced risk, and biologically derived pesticides
  • Research on pesticides suitable for use in organic farming systems
  • Development of high value
    vine ripe tomato varieties for specialty markets

Extension Educational Outreach Projects

  • Extending pesticide safety program for limited resource farmers
  • Implementation of improved fertilizer application practices in drip irrigation systems
  • Improved monitoring and evaluation of irrigation practices on small farms
  • Evaluation of improved techniques for application of reduced risk pesticides
    in limited resource farming systems
  • Identification and monitoring of beneficial insects
  • Integration of cultural controls for pest management

Collaborative or Other Special Projects

  • Ant Management in Almond Orchards utilizing low-toxicity bait applications instead of broad spectrum organophosphate insecticides for control of southern fire ants and pavement ants.
