Agritourism and Nature Tourism in California is written to help farmers and ranchers 1) to determine their tourism potential and 2) walk through the steps of establishing a tourism enterprise. It is also a resource for people working with California ranchers and farmers. As a result, Agritourism and Nature Tourism in California is designed as a workbook.

It is published as a loose-leaf binder so that readers can remove and add pages. In addition to its narrative text and its examples, the manual includes hands-on activities. These activities can help landowners consider the feasibility af adding a tourism enterprise to their farm or ranch.

Agritourism and Nature Tourism in California is divided into seven chapters, arranged from general to specific. The final chapter "Resources for Success" provides an expanded list of references and websites. Other chapters furnish website addresses and reference information wherever required.

Compiled and edited by scientists, UC Cooperative Extension advisors, and growers, Agritourism and Nature Tourism in California originated at a meeting hosted by the Small Farm Center, at UC-Davis in 1999. It arose during a brainstorming session among farmers, tourism officials, university advisors, specialists and other community support groups. From that session come an official UC workgroup and this book
