ABCs of Plant Pathology (Spanish)
The CORF workshop "ABCs of Plant Pathology" will be presented in Spanish Nov. 5 at UC Cooperative Extension Fresno County's demonstration room, 1720 S. Maple Ave. in Fresno.
This workshop focuses on aspects of plant pathology that are relevant to greenhouse and nursery production, and will be conducted entirely in Spanish in Fresno.
Attendees will learn about the various types of pathogens that affect ornamental crops, and management practices to avoid pathogen infections and reduce use of pesticides.
The six-hour workshop will consist of the following sections:
- Introduction to plant pathogens
- Plants as hosts and how they are affected by pathogens
- Disease organisms and their life cycles
- Environmental influence on a host’s susceptibility to pathogens
- Methods used for diagnosis, including the symptoms and signs of pathogen infection
- How to properly collect and ship plant samples for offsite disease diagnosis
- Disease control, with emphasis on preventative control techniques
- Reducing pesticide runoff through the use of Best
- Management Practices, including proper methods of storing and handling pesticides to prevent contamination in runoff water.
